Exhibit: Presidents at the Cathedral

In addition to his first inaugural prayer service in 2009, President Barack Obama participated in three other events hosted by Washington National Cathedral during his first term. He gave a eulogy at the funeral for civil rights matriarch Dorothy Height in April 2010, addressed the nation ten years after the 9/11 attacks at a weekend of Cathedral-sponsored commemorative events, and offered a final tribute at the memorial service for Senator Daniel K. Inouye of Hawai’i in December 2012.

In the midsummer 2012 issue of Cathedral Age magazine, President Obama spoke about the Cathedral’s service as spiritual home for the nation: “The National Cathedral has a proud history of hosting conversations about questions and debates of great importance and of allowing different perspectives as part of that conversation,” he said. “This is how the Cathedral can continue to serve its mission, and how America can continue to live up to its highest ideals as well.”
